Whether wrapped in newspaper and eaten with greasy fingers or served on white china with silver cutlery, fish and chips has come a long way since it began 150 years ago.
But the traditional British dish, celebrating a landmark anniversary this year, still boasts pride of place in British culture.
The dish has survived the arrival of McDonalds and the trend for healthy and organic food, and there are now about 10,500 "chippies" across Britain serving up between 250 million and 350 million portions each year.

While designers creating capsule collections and products for high street stores is nothing new, infact quite the opposite in this era, it has been less frequently done as well for men as it has for women.
With probably just a few exceptions, Jil Sander for Uniqlo being one, the mens collaborations haven't lived up to the hype seen from the likes of Kate Moss and Christopher Kane for Topshop, or Sonia Rykiel for H&M. Oliver Spencers line of footwear for Topman could change all that.
A selection of Red Brick Sole shoes and Chukka boots will be available this season for just £80.

It must be two years now since shopping authorities announced the death of the It bag.
In the chastened era of austerity chic, or new frugality, or shopping your closet (they never did alight on a really nice term for economic hardship), the showy designer handbag would finally be seen for what it is: a leather extension of a luxury brand which has been marked up by around 10 or 12 times its actual cost.
There would be what one accessories brain called a "baglash".

The television presenter dubbed Tony Blair's favourite broadcaster was last night selected to fight a safe Labour seat.
Former GMTV political editor Gloria De Piero won the race for the coveted Ashfield constituency in Nottinghamshire, where Labour has a majority of more than 10,000.
The 37-year-old, who once beat Kate Moss in a 'World's Sexiest Woman' poll, is understood to have been backed by 80 per cent of local party members to secure the nomination.

I recently remarked on how Kate Moss has been out of the spotlight and generally of less relevance to the fashion world.
Though perhaps not ready for a full-on comeback, she has been popping up in various magazines again of late, still looking great.
This time it's naked portraiture by Mario Sorrenti for Vogue Hommes International.

England has been voted the worst dressed nation in Europe, says a survey.
Conducted by shopping website Ciao, a whopping 44% in the study said Brits were the worst dressed behind the likes of the Swedes and Dutch, reports The Sun.
And the blame has been put on Brits' fixation with budget clothing from stores including Primark.
A spokesman said: "The Primani habit has led Brits to sartorial disaster."
The contribution that Brits have made to the fashion scene over the years includes icons like Vivienne Westwood, Kate Moss and Alexander McQueen. -Tom Hyde

Kate Moss might be addicted to Chat Roulette but it's good to see she hasn't put a stop to going out altogether.
The Croydon girl hit celebrity favourite China Whites with a vengeance earlier this week and the presence of Pineapple Dance Studios star Louie Spence clearly brought out the dancer in her.
According to the Daily Star, Kate got into the vodka and cranberry juice with boyfriend Jamie Hince before stumbling onto the dancefloor.
